Our work recently moved in to another company and we've gone from a small tight knit unit of myself and two work collegues and our boss and her associate into a bigger concern with a mananger, their manager, head office etc.

we are soooo mega busy and my feet don't literally touch the floor. The boss i came with knows all about my RA and has been really good about it. I requested a day off when my unit was closed completely over easter and i was refused it due to two members of staff being off. The two members of staff are the other two girls who work with me! The manager said all three of us can't be off as they are constantly short staffed down stairs. I was really upset, as iknow i'm going to be draughted in to work with someone who i've never worked with at the speed of knotts. I was looking forward to being off, and I couldn't see the problem as my boss and her associate are both off, hence our unit being completly closed.

I burst in to tears at work yesterday, and i've already told them i'm looking for something else. I just feel stressed about the whole thing.I'm not slleping to good either and i'm fed up of talking about work!! It just gets me so mad that i'm constantly thinknig will i be moved somewhere else if they are short staffed. It's the thought of working like a headless chicken which nerves me more and the fact that i'll be with someone new. My old boss told me to ring in sick, but i'm a bit worried about doing that aswell.
I wasn't even off sick when i was diagnosed last may and i don't know how i worked looking back.

Ggggrrrr!! Complicated!!

Hi there,

I think you need to see someone from HR in this new organisation you now find yourself in so that you can explain your situation regarding the RA. All your needs must be looked at so that you are working correctly to suit your medical condition. That means where you work, the job you do and the time you may need to take off for appointments etc.

As for calling in sick. if you need to do it, don't think twice. A day taken when you need it saves a week needing to be taken later. I know it's hard because you feel obligated to the company but your health is most important.

Let us know how you get on

Hi Dawn, have you had any contact with access to work? Just wondering as they were great with me and helped by strongly advising my employers of their non-negotiable legal responsibilities - practical things like desk, chair, adaptive keyboard etc but also advised them about allowing me time to pace tasks to avoid / minimise ra problems...
Just by being involved they gave me extra strength to stand up for my rights cos its a scary thing to do especially when worried about job security - theres a lot of change in my business which is seriously compromising pacing opportunities at times at the moment so i understand how u feel
Really hope u get some support & joanna's right - there's nothing more important than your health xx
Take care, stay in touch,
love from Liz xx

oh dawn no wonder you are stressed! What a nightmare.

I wonder how robust they would be if you asked them how supportive they are actually being of an employee with a disabling condition under the DDA????

Confused

Not impressed!

Sending a lot of hugs

Gosh sounds as if you need a large glass of something very alcoholic!

Thinking of you,

Love,

Thank you all for your support and words. Hopefuly one of the girls who has been granted the time off may not need the day after all as her little boy has got a hospital appointment which may need to be changed. I'm not lazy and i'm used to being busy, and can work my day to how i really want to. If I feel a bit yuk, one of the girls swaps with me or if something needs checking, they will nip down the stairs to check for me. 90% of the time i feel good, and i do it myself at my own pace, but I just felt very in-secure last week as the thoughts of being moved panicked me. dawnybee

Hi all, i managed to swap my day off i was authorised for to another day which i origianally wantedSmile . The manager was off sick, so was a receptionist and so they were short staffed, so i offered to come in on my official day off in exchange for the one i wanted in the first place! This made more sense as our department was closed completely and a relief manager agreed it was sensible to do so. However, someone else who works in another dept who also wanted the same day is not happySad . Oh, things get soooo complicatedSad . Have a nice easter all! dawnybee
